CHAMPIONS DIVISIONS RULES

1A, DUAL HAND (2a + 3A), 4A and 5A FREESTYLE

1A FREESTYLE

  • Both prelims and finals will follow the standard NYYL scoring. CLICK HERE to view NYYL rules and scoring criteria.

  • 1A Prelims feature 1-minute performances, set to music of the player’s choice. Prelim performances are required for all 1A competitors.

  • The top 10 placing competitors from the 1A Prelims will advance to 1A Finals.

Competitors will be seeded into the finals based on their total prelim score, starting with the lowest score to highest score, to determine their performance order in the finals.

  • 1A Finals are 2-minute performances, set to music of the player’s choice.

  • Awards will be given to the top three performers. The highest ranked Illinois winner will be ranked the Illinois State Champion.

  • Players entering a 1A, Dual Hand (2A + 3A), 4A, or 5A Freestyle Champions Divisions are not eligible to compete in the Sport Freestyle Division.

The Sport Freestyle Division is intended for newer players early in their freestyle career or those competing in freestyle for the first time, looking to gain experience and confidence. If you’d like to enter an additional event, consider participating in the Trick Ladder or Doc Lucky’s Duos Division.

If a player registers for both a Champions and a Sport Freestyle Division, our team will reach out before the contest to determine the best fit and issue a refund.

Dual Hand (2A + 3A), 4A, 5A FREESTYLE

  • The Dual Hand (2A + 3A), 4A, 5A Freestyle divisions are all separate divisions:

    • Dual Hand (2A + 3A) Freestyle Division: Freestyle performances involve two looping yo-yos (2A) or two long-spinning string trick yo-yos (3A). This division is a one-round final.

    • 4A Freestyle Division: Freestyle performances with one or more yo-yos where the string is not attached to the yo-yo(s). This division is a one-round final.

    • 5A Freestyle Division: Freestyle performances with one yo-yo where the string is attached to a counterweight instead of the competitor’s finger. This division is a one-round final.

Each of these divisions are a one-round final featuring 2-minute long performances, set to music of the player’s choice.
